The Dave Hill Look in LR

If you don’t know Dave Hill, familiarise yourself. You’ll be stuck on his site for hours.

His editing look is called the ‘Dave Hill Look’ and I don’t imagine that I’ll ever achieve it (if it were that easy, it wouldn’t be named for the one guy who pulls it off!)

There are multiple tutorials online for doing his variation of the ‘high pass’ technique but because I only use Photoshop Elements, I get stuck on the layer mask step. Then, I fell across this tutorial by Scott Kelby for doing the Dave Hill look in LR and these are my first attempts.

Those look great! I’m not sure if it would help or not, but CoffeeShop has a layer mask action made for those of us using Elements!

I tried the Dave Hill effect; however, in this tutorial it shows the white balance temp as being 5000. Mine has a range of -100 to +100. What am I missing?

@stacie: hmm yeah I didn’t notice that before. I didn’t do anything to my WB and it worked fine for me. Must’ve just been there from his example shot for some reason.
