Q. I have always wanted to know how you do the bright lighting effect like you did to Kelsey’s photo in todays Reader Photo Friday how it looks just angelic. a lot of people use the effect and i do not know how. I use PSE8 because I can’t figure out my CS4.
A. Oh wow great question! This is one of the first tricks I learned in PSE when I started editing photos. It’s really simple.
- Start with your image
- In the layers pallette, right click and duplicate the background image
- Use the ‘overlay’ or ‘soft light’ mode and adjust the opacity until it looks right
- Then with the top layer selected, go to filter –> blur –> gaussian blur and move the blur slider until you like the glow on your photo. You can see it changing as you move the slider.
